Membership & Baptism

Far West End Seventh-day Adventist Church is a community of faith in which all are welcomed to participate in its worship services and its fellowship. Some choose to take a further step of commitment and personal involvement in the ministries of the church by becoming an active member. If you are looking for a church home, or perhaps you are new to our community, we would love to welcome you into the membership of the Far West End SDA Church family.

“For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” (Romans 12:4-5)

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5, KJV)

The Meaning of Membership

Church membership is not a means of salvation; becoming a member of Far West End SDA Church or any other church does not assure anyone of eternal life in heaven. The Bible does tell believers, however, to meet regularly with a group of Christians who love, serve, and encourage one another (see Ephesians 4:16, I Timothy 3:15, and Romans 12:4-5).

Your membership means more than simply signing a piece of paper. Becoming a member of Far West End SDA Church expresses your commitment to this “spiritual family,” a family that worships together, grows in faith together, and serves one another. We are committed to connecting with you and desire to help you solidify your faith and find your place at FWESDA Church.

Becoming a Member

There are 3 different ways you can become a member of Far West End SDA Church:

Transfer of Letter

If you hold membership in the Adventist Church in another location and want to establish your membership at Far West End SDA Church, you may do so by transferring your membership. You may begin that process by contacting the Church Clerk. She will help you fill out an application for transfer of membership and begin the transfer process from you previous church.

Profession of Faith

If you have already been baptized by immersion in another Christian denomination you may become a member of Far West End SDA Church by a simple declaration of your personal faith in Jesus Christ, and your desire to become an active member of the Far West End Seventh-day Adventist Church. You may begin that process by calling the church office and asking for the Church Clerk. She will help you fill out a church membership application and set up an appointment with the pastor.

Baptism

The Seventh-day Adventist Church believes and practices baptism by immersion. For those who are beginning their walk with Jesus for the first time, or making a renewed commitment, baptism is a symbol of that new life in Christ and entrance into His church.(Acts 2:38-47) If you have never been baptized by immersion and would like to take that step, just call the church office and you will be directed to an Elder who will meet with you and help you prepare for this important event.

By baptism we confess our faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and testify of our death to sin and of our purpose to walk in newness of life. Thus we acknowledge Christ as Lord and Saviour, become His people, and are received as members by His church. Baptism is a symbol of our union with Christ, the forgiveness of our sins, and our reception of the Holy Spirit.Jesus modeled the process of baptism for us.

It is by immersion in water and is contingent on an affirmation of faith in Jesus and evidence of repentance of sin. It follows instruction in the Holy Scriptures and acceptance of their teachings.

Baptism symbolized dying to self and coming alive in Jesus. Seventh-day Adventists practice full immersion baptism because by being fully buried beneath the water we symbolize that God’s grace fully fills us with His new life for the future. Through baptism we are truly born again in Jesus. If you haven’t been to one of our baptism services, it is a time of high rejoicing and celebration!

Children, Youth and Baptism

We do not hesitate or discourage children who genuinely want to give their hearts to Jesus. When children/youth make the decision to become a follow of Christ, we begin a guided baptismal study specifically designed for children. Filled with pictures and Bible stories, each Bible Guide will lead your kids through an incredible journey that will teach them more about the Bible, prophecy, and important doctrines like heaven, hell, the state of the dead, and more, in ways that make sense to them! After they complete the study, Far West End SDA Church arranges the baptism service to affirm the child’s decision and to let him/her know that the congregation rejoices with him/her for making such a commitment.

Adults and Baptism

Adults who express their desire to follow Christ and request baptism, likewise also complete a guided baptismal study. After they complete the study, Far West End SDA Church arranges the baptism service to affirm their decision and to let him/her know that the congregation rejoices with him/her for making such a commitment. In other cases, adults may express their desire for re-baptism. Upon consultation with our Pastor, this service will be arranged and our congregation will rejoice with the individual for making such a declaration of recommitment.
